E3 2006: New Metal Gear Solid 4 details
Kojima talks about gameplay, online mode, and storyline of Guns Of The Patriots.
Friday, May 12, 2006 - After the amazing trailer shown at the E3 (news), in an interview in the latest issue of Famitsu, Kojima unveiled more details about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots.
In particular, Kojima made some interesting remarks about the storyline of the new game. With the new Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops for PSP being part of the MGS canon, Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the ending chapter of a tale that spanned 7 games (Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid: Special Ops, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots games). This should explain also the "7" used in the logo of the game, but as one of our editors pointed out, there are already rumors that since the original Metal Gear was released on 7/7/1987, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots could come out 7/7/2007, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series.
Kojima said that Metal Gear Solid 4 will clear up all mysteries, and when asked if the story will come to a true end, Kojima answered, straightly and clearly, "it will come to an end." Kojima stated that nearly all characters from the Metal Gear Solid series will make an appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4, thus confirming that Guns Of The Patriots will put an end to the most important story threads of the series.
Kojima also discussed some gameplay elements in the interview. The exoskeleton Snake is using in the trailer is an "Octacamo" suit; like and better than octopuses, that can change color to match perfectly their surroundings, Snake's suit will be able to reproduce not only the color, but also details like bumps and holes of objects in the environment, like walls, thus making Snake theoretically invisible to the enemy.
Kojima confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots will include a rich online mode, more complex and immersive than the one in the wonderful Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Kojima stated that more than 8 players will be able to play together in the new PS3 game.
