Codemasters to publish Second Sight
Codemasters has secured global publishing rights to the new project from Free Radical Design.

- Codemasters today announced the company has secured global publishing rights to Second Sight, the new game developed by Free Radical Design, the creative team behind the TimeSplitters series. The game, scheduled for a late 2004 release for Playstation 2, GameCube, and Xbox, will be revealed at next week's E3 Expo.

Second Sight is a psychological thriller in which the player takes control of John Vattic, a man that awakening from a coma discovers he has been subjected to traumatic surgery and experimentation, with scars running all along his body. He doesn't know his name, he can't remember his past, all he knows is that he must escape and discovers what has happened to him (you already read this recently? You're right, check yesterday's article about Vivendi's Fahrenheit).

Jack is hunted by visions, flashbacks that are included in the game as fully playable episodes. Anybody who has played TimeSplitters should know the interest of Free Radical's in playing with time in their games, and also in Second Sight players will play in two different time periods, past and present, which run through the game as a dual-narrative. Jack's actions in the past will lead to different consequences in the present, letting players to actually change Vattic's destiny.

Jack soon realizes he has gained terrific psychic powers and that he's just part of a sinister conspiracy.

Described as a stealth action game, Second Sight will offer the chance to play through the game in different ways, completing levels either via stealth, dramatic gunplay, psychic powers or a combination of all three. Jack will be able to psychically influence characters and remotely manipulate objects and individuals. As the game progresses, Jack will develop additional abilities and refine his existing powers. For example, basic telekinesis is upgraded beyond simply moving objects, enabling Vattic to lift enemies and smash them against the scenery. Other powers include Healing, Projection (Jack can project his soul out of his body and possess other characters), Charm (Jack can alter the mind of other characters, fooling them he's not there), and Psi-blast (Jack sends a destructive shockwave towards his enemies). Jack can also combine his powers with an arsenal of more traditional weapons, including pistols and a sniper rifle.
