New details about Jak 3
SCEA unveiled the first details about Jak 3 - which, apparently, will be the ending chapter of the series.

- Sony Computer Entertainment America unveiled today the first details about Jak 3, the third installment of the Jak & Daxter series, a Playstation 2 exclusive scheduled for this fall. The game will mark the end of the series, with a plot-driven structure that will finally let players know the truth about the Precursor Civilization and will offer a story filled with "friendship, betrayal, death", according to SCEA.

The story takes place one year after the events of Jak II. After Jak and Daxter saved Haven City from Kor and the Metal Heads, the city is still immersed in chaos as three groups fight seeking control of the streets. Little by little, the people of Haven City have grown to distrust Jak's dark powers, and as rumors boil of Jak's ties with Krew and Kor, the city blames Jak for its current woeful circumstances. When the palace is destroyed by a surprise Metal Head attack, even Ashelin cannot protect Jak as the High Council's power broker, Count Veger, forces Jak into banishment to the desolate Wasteland. Jak is flown to the harsh island and dumped. With Daxter and Pecker bravely by his side, the three begin their next adventure where the battle for the city has just begun.

The Wasteland, a desert environment with multiple areas including a volcano and mines, will be five times the size of the already vast Haven City; given the enormity of the terrain, vehicles will be fundamental elements in Jak 3, and they will move and behave realistically thanks to a true-to-life physics engine developed by Naughty Dog.

Jak has changed, once again. This time, he will be equipped with new upgradeable weapons and suited with armor, and will have new powers thanks to the exposition to Light Eco. While its Dark Powers are back from the previous game with some additional capability, Jak 3 will feature "Light Jak", a new transformation that turns Jak into a creature able to glide great distances, emit an energy to block enemy attacks, and power up at anytime - all to provide the player with a sense of being invincible.

The game will feature enhanced enemy artificial intelligence, inpendent cloth movement technology, and the realistic "Ragdoll Physics", which will allow gamers to "witness a unique death for each enemy that is killed". Just to underline the new "mature" look of the series, we guess.
