TimeSplitters is one of those games (like Unreal Tournament) based on the speed of the 3d engine. And to tell the truth this game is faster than Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, thanks to the ability of the developers and to the power of the new console. Each level has a particular setting; in TimeSplitters you'll fight in different places and in different times; you'll have to kill mutant mummies in Egypt or evil chinese chefs in chinatown. The backgrounds in TimeSplitters are good; they're full of colors and cool details but they look too squared for a 128 bit game.
Characters are well designed but sometimes their grotesque and comic aspect is a bit annoying. However, characters' animations are nice: they are incredibly smoother respect to the ones seen in Perfect Dark and it seems they've been realized with an help from Disney's artists.
The light effects in TimeSplitters are absolutely unreal and excessive, like anything else in this game, but they are good. It's funny to try your weapons just to see their special effects on the screen.
TimeSplitters hasn't, probably, those refined graphics you'd like to see on your console, but it's still a pretty game. And it's fast guys, really fast.
Music in TimeSplitters is very simple. It's not so original or addictive, but it is quite funny and it works as a background to the in-game action. It's true not a secret that masterpieces like Doom or Quake had bad music and great realistic sound effects. And the same happens in TimeSplitters.
If you plug your stereo to your Ps2 you'll fully appreciate the quality of weapons' sounds. Sound Effects are very realistic and each weapon has its own special sounds. Turn the volume up and you'll feel like Bruce Willis in one of his best performances.
TimeSplitters has been clearly designed for the multiplayer mode. If you have friends who like this sort of game, then this game will grant you hours and hours of fun.
In fact in TimeSplitters you have gigantic levels to play and everything is completely customizable. And if you want something new using the Map builder included in the game you can always design your levels, save them on your memory card, and then play them with your friends. To tell the truth, in the multiplayer mode, this game is theoretically endless. But if you usually play alone with your games, then you'll try to resell this game after a couple of weeks or you'll use it as a base for your console.
