Graphics : 9.5

Since you're still reading this, chances are you have played other Tony Hawk games in the past and you know that the graphics of these games have challenged not only the best looking extreme sport titles but also every other game on the system.

This year's version is no different. The skaters look amazing and the levels are highly detailed. It really seems that Neversoft took closer look at the skaters while they performed tricks; each skater seem to show his own style, thanks to the different animations created by the developers.

Like I stated before, the levels in Tony Hawk 4 are massive in comparison to other year's, and from what I have read they do resemble real life skate parks or a skater's favorite locations. After playing this title for a countless number of hours I have yet to find a single flaw in the game. The frame rate is remarkably smooth, and I have yet to see a glitch or a slowdown.

Sound : 10.0

The Tony Hawk's series has been known to pound out some amazing music, and this year is no different. I guess this is really more of a personal preference above anything else. If you don't like bands like AC/DC, The Cult, The Offspring, Run DMC, and Sex Pistols then this music is not for you. There are 35 total songs to listen and they seem to have a rather large variety. Probably you'll love many songs and hate others, but overall the music is an improvement over THPS: 3.

The skateboard sounds are very nice too as the rolling wheels make unique sounds depending on the type of surface you ride on. Voices of riders and spectators are also good and the constant thud of the skaters smacking the ground when trying to pull off a terrific trick is enough to make you shiver in pain. With the included sounds of the environment like birds chirping, waves crashing and horns blowing, it makes it easy to award a perfect score.

After 3 weeks of intense game time I can still say I am enjoying the game to the fullest. With 190 different goals to achieve, not including the riders individual challenges, you are definitely not going to finish this game over night. The online aspect of the game makes for even more hours of enjoyment with different game types and many maps to play on, including downloadable users-created maps.

Overall Score ( not an average ) : 9.5

This game is nearly perfect in every aspect. I can't even give you an honest answer as to why it's not my first awarded perfect 10 besides the fact that I am not a skater boy.

Maybe it is that these 1 million point combos I try to achieve are making me so frustrated that I want to throw my controller, or the fact that I know I will never be able to pull off a single trick in real life. Maybe it has something to do with me forgetting to call my now ex-girlfriend. I just don't know. I guess we will call it a personal grudge if you will. Get out there and buy this game for yourself. Call it a Christmas gift, and don't forget the online adaptor.
