PlayStation 2 Fantasy

Graphics : 5.0

The characters are solid, well built and they have many good details. The animation is quite smooth and the movements of some characters are simply irresistible. The backgrounds are terrible instead. It almost seems that Arika has made a mixture of the worst scenarios from the preceding versions of the game. The environments are completely unable to create an atmosphere for your battles.
Fortunately, the light effects connected to the characters' moves are pleasant; during the special moves you''ll see the camera approaching the fighters, thus emphasizing the action. Nevertheless just a little part of the Ps2 power is exploited by Street Fighter Ex3.

Sound : 4.0

The sound effects are similar to those heard on the PsOne's instalments, just a little more clear. The music is completely uninspired; a good composer could have been able to create at least two or three exciting tracks to create an atmosphere in this game, but this is not the case.

Overall, despite the bad graphics and the terrible sounds, this game is amusing, and is able to attract the player. The hidden characters, the various gameplay modes, especially the character edit mode, and a nice four player mode are a good reason to play with this game for many weeks.

Overall Score ( not an average ) : 6.0

Among the fighting games released at Ps2 launch, Street Fighter Ex3 is the worst. If you are a fan of the series you'll surely buy this game, and that's good, because this is a chance to have all your favorite characters, with all their moves, in a nice 128 bit version. But if you are used to three dimensional games like Tekken or Dead Or Alive is better for you to stay away from this title. It's sad that one of the greatest series of all times is not able to compete with other games at present on the shelves.
