Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
One of the greatest Dreamcast's games on PS2

HarrySega has recently announced that because of the low number of consoles sold during last months, the production of the Dreamcast, its nice 128-bit console, has been definitely interrupted. During the Christmas period the top selling consoles were PsOne and Ps2; according to the high number of pre orders, Sony should succeed in selling more than 10 million Ps2 during this year, thus causing more than a problem to its competitors.

With great displeasure of all Sega fans, Capcom has revealed that one of the best games ever released for Dreamcast, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, will soon hit the shelves in a new Ps2 version, featuring improved graphics to exploit the power of this new console. It’s important to remember that Resident Evil: Code Veronica is not the fourth episode of the fortunate Resident Evil series, which should arrive instead on Ps2 during 2001.

The story of Code Veronica begins three months after the events of RE2. Claire Redfield has been captured by the Umbrella Corporation, the evil company behind the genetic mutations of Resident Evil, and she has been brought to an island where is situated an important Umbrella’s research centre.

Still in search for her brother Chris, one of the heroes of the first Resident Evil, Claire will have to face every sort of danger, with the help of Steve Burnside, a sort of charming model dressed like a Final Fantasy character. Resident Evil: Code Veronica will feature the usual puzzles that characterized the previous episodes of the series: extremely easy to resolve (so easy that during the game you’ll be asking yourself why the hell those guys at Capcom are thinking you’re an idiot) and rather repetitive. Anyhow, the series was not focused on the ability to stimulate the player’s intelligence.

The greatness of Code Veronica in the DC version is first of all in sublime graphics, both in in-game moments and during the magnificent CG movies. Contrarily of what happened in the other instalments of the series, in Code Veronica all the environments are completely 3D and rendered in real time, like those seen in Dino Crisis 1 or those, marvellous, featured in Konami's Silent Hill. The camera, with a cinematographic style, allows various points of view on the scene, and this surely makes the game richer in action than Resident Evil 2; the controls are extremely simple, solid and intuitive. In a few minutes the player is able to move the character fairly well and he can kill zombies and other repugnant creatures.

The title of this new enhanced version will be Code Veronica: Perfect Edition. This game will surely demonstrate something of the power of the new console. We will try to furnish you further information after the release of the Japanese version of the game, scheduled for next month, March 2001. At present you can download the complete Code Veronica’s trailer in our download section.
