Parappa’s world is bright and shiny. Everything in this game, from characters to environments, is made to look joyful and warm. This could be a merit in nowadays videogaming panorama, infested by gloomy or terrifying atmosphere. Sometimes is a pleasure to look at something that leaves you an impression of calmness and joy. The problem is not because of the atmosphere of Parappa 2, but mainly because the game’s graphics are “old-fashioned”. Everything is too plain and simple, and lacks of necessary improvements and detail. Parappa the Rapper 2 is too much similar to older 2D games, and it’s nothing if compared to other Ps2 games. Frankly, even if we like to death Parappa’s style, we were expecting more.
Being Parappa the Rapper 2 a music game, is obvious that music has a great importance in the game. It’s probably the most important aspect of the whole game, and also its strongest point. Parappa’s music, even if you’re not a fan of the genre, is fresh and involving. Parappa’s tunes will remain stuck to your head for many many hours after turning off the console. The style is more or less the same of the preceding game: an original mix of rap, funky and hip hop music. It will be fun to listen to our characters’ performances again and again. Every master has a peculiar style which is very different from the one of other masters, even if above all we recognize and appreciate the energetic Parappa’s style. Voices are also good and they perfectly fit the global sense of vitality of the game.
This game is very short and also the most inexperienced player will have no difficulties in completing it in few hours. That’s because the gameplay is too easy in some parts, and the repetitiveness is not very helpful to make the player want to play more. Your performances don’t have to be perfect to pass stages and also making many mistakes you can access the next stage. Battle Mode, when unlocked, adds some interesting challenge, but not enough. Once you have completed the game, you can play it again, using Parappa with a different hat. But apart from this, there’s nothing else.
