Sony expressly designed this game to show the power of the new console. But to tell the truth, like in any classical puzzle game, graphics in Fantavision are not excellent. The backgrounds in Fantavision are surely enjoyable: there are wondereful polygonal cities and cool space stations. There are some extremely realistic lighting and particle effects, but it's also true that I've seen similar effects on Dreamcast and PsOne's games. I really don't understand why Sony decided to create a game like Fantavision to impress their potential buyers.
Sounds in Fantavision are simply bad. The background music is like those terrible, stupid tunes you can hear in an elevator: low quality, synthetic music that can produce hallucinatory effects in the listener. Probably you'd better turn completely down the volume while playing this game. Sound effects are awful too, even if there is a quite good voice that will tell you what kind of fireworks chains you have created.
If you like the genre, you'll play Fantavision for a quite long time, especially if you have a friend to play the two player mode. But if you can't stand puzzle games, then you'll end up hating Fantavision very soon. After a week you'll forget this game and it will disappear below all those unmentionable, old CDs that you have in the dark corner of your room.
Overall Score ( not an average ) :
5.0
As I have said before, I really don't understand why Sony decided to release this game as their first game for Ps2. Fantavision looks a lot like a 32 bit game and it really doesn't show anything new. The backgrounds are good and the fireworks are enjoyable, but there is really nothing more.
If you have always hated Tetris and you have always thought Devil Dice is terribly boring, if you want a game that will show your eyes the power of the new console, then do yourself a favor, forget Fantavision.
On the other hand, if you like puzzle games you'll probably like Fantavision. Its gameplay is good and the idea that is behind the game is surely original.
