Devil May Cry
A stylish Demon Warrior from Capcom.

CarlitoFor the enthusiasts of Survival Horror games, this year will be a great year. Not only Konami, after the great Shadow Of Destiny, is going to release a title like Silent Hill 2, sequel of one of the deepest game ever realized on a console, but Capcom too has intention to bring fear to all the owners of a Ps2. And it could not be otherwise, for a society that is considered undisputed leader of the genre.

Capcom will release four high budget Survival Horror games this year: Onimusha (already out in Japan), Code Veronica: Perfect Edition (an enhanced version of the same game on Dreamcast, which will be released this summer), Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry; this last, "demoniac" game is the subject of this review. Among the developers of Devil May Cry there is Shinji Mikami, creator of the Resident Evil series and of Dino Crisis. A demo of the game will be included in the disc of Code Veronica: Perfect Edition, which should arrive in US in July 2001. The release of the complete game is planned for Fall 2001 in US. As usual, Europeans players will have to wait a bit more, probably a month, to get their hands on this game.

In Devil May Cry, you will take the role of Dante, son of the great demon Sparda, who saved mankind from the attack of a powerful dark demon two thousand years ago. But now the wicked dark demon has returned to life and Dante has the assignment to fight the same monster faced by his father. But don’t think Dante is an unprepared one. During the battles, Dante will be able to turn himself into a demon to exploit all his extraordinary powers. Take a look at the trailer of the game from Capcom in our Devil May Cry’s download section.

The game graphics, according to what we have seen till now, seems to refuse the classical Resident evil scheme, based on pre-rendered backgrounds and three-dimensional, extremely defined polygonal characters. The environments will be completely or almost completely three-dimensional (there are two or three scenes in which it seems that pre-rendered elements have been used for distant walls), and continuous movements of the camera, joint with an incredibly fast graphic engine, will make Devil May Cry a more action-oriented title than Resident Evil. Speaking of loading times, Capcom assured that they have been reduced to just two or three seconds for each level. The game seems to have a stupendous gothic atmosphere, very different from other Capcom’s games.

Speaking of controls, it seems that this game will take the exciting rhythm of Dino Crisis 2, with a big attention to violent action. Dante is not just a powerful demon; he can use contemporarily two guns (just like in Dino Crisis 2) and he can brandish a gigantic demoniac sword. Shot them, cut them and then you’ll be sure those monsters will never come back.

We hope to have soon other news and more screenshots featuring Devil May Cry. Check Ps2fantasy for possible updates.
