Notice: Ps2Fantasy.com has been undergoing a major redesign for a long time. Ps2Fantasy.com will soon become PsFantasy.com, a professional network of websites covering all PlayStation platforms. We will offer more updates than ever, in-depth content, and a series of services to our community. During this process, functionality of this website and frequency of updates are very limited.
- At its E3 2006 conference, Konami unveiled the new Metal Gear Solid title for the PSP. Titled Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, the game will be the first true stealth action title of the series on the PSP. In fact, the two Metal Gear Acid games, both based on card-based game mechanics that have little in common with the action offered by Metal Gear Solid games, are currently the only way Metal Gear fans have to enjoy the series on their PSP. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops should hit the stores in Winter 2006.
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops will take place many years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The game storyline, described as the missing link between Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and the first Metal Gear game, will narrate “the tragedy of Big Boss”, how Big Boss lost everything and decided to establish the legendary Outer Heaven, where a young Solid Snake would have faced him.
Anyhow, it’s evident this will not be a traditional Metal Gear Solid title. While the game will feature “a full blown single player campaign”, animated comic strips, similar in style to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid digital graphic novel, could be used for storytelling in place of the real-time CG movies used in other Metal Gear Solid games. Great importance is also given to the online multiplayer mode; players will be able to recruit comrades online. Big Boss, the young Revolver Ocelot, Eve, and many more characters will be playable characters in multiplayer mode. It’s still difficult to understand if the online mode will somehow relate to the offline single player campaign.
Graphics-wise, the game looks almost as good as the latest Metal Gear Solid games on PlayStation, running obviously at a lower resolution on the PSP screen.
