E3 2005: Konami announces 3 new MGS games
Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Acid, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence to be developed by new Kojima Productions studio.

- Konami announced at the pre- Electronic Entertainment Expo that the company is already working on the new Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PlayStation 3, on a new Metal Gear Acid game for the PSP, and on a re-edition of Metal Gear Solid 3 titled Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. All the projects will be developed by a new internal studio lead by Hideo Kojima and called Kojima Productions.

According to Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid 4, developed for the PlayStation 3, will revolve around the concept of "nowhere to hide". The game will ask players to rely less on stealth actions and more on camouflage, as seen in Metal Gear Solid 3. To make things even more intriguing, Kojima confirmed the game will be set in a near future world after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, and will see the return of all the major characters of the series, including Solid Snake, Meryl, Otacon, and Revolver Ocelot and – from what we see in the game official website – probably also Vamp and Raiden, the hero of Metal Gear Solid 2. Kojima confirmed that players will take the role of Solid Snake, which looks much older than in Sons Of Liberty in the early artworks of the game.

Kojima said we will have to wait another year to have more information on the game. Anyhow, he said MGS4 will include an online battle mode, and will feature graphics and sound able to rival anything Hollywood does.

The PlayStation 2 will get the juicy Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence that, like and more than Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, will be a re-release of the original MGS3 game with the addition of new content. The game will feature online multiplayer action for a maximum of eight players featuring two game modes - "Team Battle", where multiple players can cooperate during the battle, and the more interesting "Snake vs. Enemies", where multiple players must hunt down one single opponent. Konami will also add a "Third-Person View Camera" which will lower the camera angle and frame the action more closely, to create a more dramatic stealth experience. Finally, Subsistence will also include ports of the original MSX versions of the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake - both extraordinary games of the 8-bit era.

The only handheld Metal Gear game announced at the conference is the stylish Metal Gear Acid 2, sequel to the PSP card-based game; the game will feature cel-shaded graphics and will feature a gameplay similar to its predecessor. It seems like it will be a long time before PSP owners will have the classic Metal Gear Solid experience they are expecting.

The first images, artworks and trailers of the games can be found in the great new website of Kojima Productions. Look at the amazing section for Metal Gear Solid 4. Click on "Next" to navigate through the many projects of the Studio.
