Sony announces SOCOM 3
Next installment of the popular online shooter to be released this fall.

- Sony has announced that a third installment in the popular SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals series is already in development, and should be released for PlayStation 2 in fall 2005. The game will include the same mix of online and offline gameplay of the previous installments.

Several improvements and new features will be included in SOCOM 3. The game will take place in Poland, Bangladesh, and Morocco, with maps that should be up to six times the size of those of the preceding installments, thanks to a new streaming technology developed by Zipper Interactive. Checkpoints scattered throughout the map will let players save their game during missions.

SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy Seals will let players choose between 31 weapons to be customized with 21 different attachments, drive vehicles (Humvees, boats, T72 tanks, light strike vehicles, and many more), and play against smarter AI controlled opponents. Soldiers in SOCOM 3 should also have many new abilities, like swimming, and a new context-sensitive button should make communication with AI controlled comrades more intuitive.
