eDimensional announces 3D glasses for consoles
An intriguing new peripheral promises to bring 3D to your TV.
Friday, November 26, 2004 - eDimensional, manufacturer and worldwide distributor of gaming and virtual reality accessories, announced the release of the new VirtualFX 2D to 3D TV Converter.
The peripheral - which we didn't test - can be used with any existing video game, but also with movies and live TV, assures eDimensional. The converter box included into the package must be hooked to your console (PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube), your DVD player, or Cable box; the box converts the standard video signal into a 3D video signal made of two different images, one for each eye. These images are then displayed alternatively on the TV screen, while the lenses of the glasses open and close in synch with the TV images, ensuring that the left eye sees only the left eye image and vice versa.
The VirtualFX package comes at $129.95 and includes 2 pairs of wireless glasses, one converter box and standard RCA cables. Additional glasses can be purchased individually for $25. The peripheral works only with standard CRT televisions, as plasma, LCD, and projection screens are not supported. NTSC signal is also recommended (North American standard).
"Our E-D 3D Glasses for the PC have been extremely popular for years, but our recent breakthrough allows us to finally bring that same amazing 3D effect eDimensional is known for to the TV." explains eDimensional executive Michael Epstein. "With our new VirtualFX we are revolutionizing the home entertainment experience more interactivity, more immersion, more realistic graphics and more exciting effects giving gamers and movie-watchers alike a truly mind-blowing 3D experience."
As a bonus offer for the holidays, eDimensional is including three 3D IMAX DVDs originally shown in IMAX theaters and specially made for exceptional 3D effects.
