SOCOM II patch coming next week
Online players who hate cheaters should rejoice. Maybe.
Friday, September 3, 2004 - Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today that on September 9th, all online players will have to download a new patch for SOCOM II that will fix many bugs in what has become the most popular console online game.
The patches will stop cheaters from using dirty tricks to beat their opponents (like moving off of the maps or hiding into supposedly concrete walls from where they can still hit other players). In the same day, the ladder system will be reset, so that cheaters will not have an unfair advantage against honest players. This will probably annoy those who never used cheats in their games, but with 103,000 unique accounts logging into the game everyday, it's hard to imagine any other way to bring the game back to a clean state.
