Scarface game surfaces
Vivendi announces game based on Brian De Palma's cult movie - God knows why, we are not surprised.

- Vivendi Universal announced today that the company will publish a game, developed by Radical Games, and based on Brian De Palma's cult movie starring Al Pacino, Scarface. Brian De Palma's movie, produced by Martin Bregman, followed the career of a ruthless Cuban refugee, Tony Montana, in his violent ascent to become the king of Miami's drug underworld. De Palma's movie was inspired by the original Scarface directed by Howard Hawks in 1932, one of the most beautiful and intense movies in the history of cinema. Hawks' work was strongly influenced by the real life of Al Capone - the main character, Tony Camonte, was wonderfully played by Paul Muni, who used all his unique expressiveness to create a vivid, twisted, yet fascinating character.

The game developed by Radical Games should hit the stores in Autumn 2005, but apparently it will not follow the events of the movies. While players will play as Tony Montana, a new event-driven storyline was written by David McKenna specifically for the game. The game, a third person action shooter, will bring the players in the drug underworld, recreating the historical time period of the movie. Players will have to survive in the streets of Miami, but also in islands of the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, and many other locales.

"The treacherous world of Scarface is a natural property to translate into a cinematic game play experience," said Michael Pole, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Studios for Vivendi Universal Games. "The game will feature cutting-edge technology, a compelling storyline and the unprecedented experience of playing as one of Hollywood's most notorious gangsters, Tony Montana."

"Scarface was a landmark film and has inspired countless movies and games," said Bill Kispert, vice president of Interactive at Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. "Having the chance to now bring gamers the authentic experience is an opportunity and challenge we are looking forward to."

Stay tuned for more information about Scarface.
