SCEE unveils EyeToy Chat
Turning your Playstation 2 in a videophone? It will be soon possible.

- Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today unveiled EyeToy: Chat, the latest title for the EyeToy, the exclusive Playstation 2 peripheral. EyeToy Chat, developed by SCEE London Studios, will let Playstation 2 owners turn their console into a sort of videophone.

Without having to pay any monthly fee, players with a Playstation 2, a Network Adaptor, and a broadband connection will be able to use the EyeToy to communicate using text, voice, video mail, and one to one video chat. The text chat rooms will allow up to 256 players to talk together, while the voice chat rooms will let up to 16 players converse at one time. Anyhow, EyeToy: Chat's most important feature will be the one to one real-time video chat, which will let players see each other while discussing about anything they want. While chatting, it will be also possible to play one of the three games included in EyeToy: Chat - Chess, Draughts, and Naval War. No costs and no fees, other than those of the ISP, will be needed to use EyeToy: Chat.

Safety for younger players will be a top priority. New EyeToy: Chat users will be required to register their details online at PlayStation Net; they will then need to verify their details by inputting the PIN number sent to their address. With strict safety measures in place, chat room moderators and clear processes for grievances, EyeToy: Chat wants to be one of the safest communication packages available on any system on the market.
