Midway announces Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Sequel to Shadow Hearts to be released for Playstation 2 this fall.
Thursday, April 29, 2004 - Midway announced today that Shadow Hearts: Covenant (known as Shadow Hearts 2 in Japan), the sequel to the RPG Shadow Hearts, is scheduled to be published this fall in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 2.
Story
Shadow Hearts: Covenant takes place over a year after the end of the original Shadow Hearts, during the World War I. Yuri, the main character of the preceding game gifted with extraordinary abilities that let him transform into many monstrous creatures is back, in an expedition with friends Gepetto and Kallen, a German female soldier. Yuri has lost good part of his morphing abilities because he has been cursed by Nicholas, one of the key members of a secret cult that wants to take advantage of the war to fulfill their desire of ruling the world. Yuri must fight the cult and find a cure for his curse.
Gameplay
The game will combine turn-based strategy with RPG elements, and it will bring back the combat system of the preceding installment, the so-called Judgement Ring, which allows players to choose which characters to bring to battle and determines the final outcome of the battle also according to the players' speed and accuracy. New features will be added to the Judgement Ring in this sequel, allowing players to create team-based combos and defensive formations.
