Encore to publish Heroes of the Pacific
Flight combat game set in the World War II to debut at E3.
Monday, April 19, 2004 - Encore today announced that the company has reached an agreement with Australian developer IR Gurus to publish Heroes of the Pacific for the Playstation 2. The game will be also available for the Xbox and Windows PC.
The game puts players in the heat of some of the most intense naval conflicts in World War II's Pacific Theater, beginning with the attack on Pearl Harbor. The story is divided in 30 missions, all based on real events of the U.S. Navy's campaign in Pacific, in hotspots like Midway Island, the Coral Sea, Wake Island, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. Players will be able to pilot a selection of airplanes identical to their real counterparts, like the Grumman F4F Wildcat, the F6F Hellcat, the Douglas SBD Dauntless, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk and the Chance-Vought F4U Corsair.
According to Encore, the core engine of the game makes it possible to play into battles featuring over 300 planes on screen, each with realistic AI and dogfighting physics, with some models made of as many as 30,000 polygons, in addition to realistic and dynamic 3D water effects.
The game will be playable offline and online, in single player and multiplayer mode. In single player, players must go through missions with up to 32 wingmen, all controllable through a menu system. In multiplayer, the game can be played offline in multiplayer split-screen mode and online on both consoles and PC. The PC version will include also a LAN multiplayer mode.
Heroes Of The Pacific is currently scheduled for a Winter 2004 release date, and will be unveiled for the first time at the E3 in Los Angeles this May. More information can be found at the game's website at www.heroesofthepacific.com.
