Ken Kutaragi revealed that the new console will play also Playstation 2 and PsOne games.
Tuesday, September 2, 2003 - Ken Kutaragi, president and chief executive officer, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., today revealed in atalk with a Japanese newspaper that the Playstation 2 will be backward compatible not only with Playstation 2 games but also with PsOne games.
"PsOne runs on PlayStation 2 through emulation rather than actual hardware. PlayStation 3 will offer the same compatibility for PS2 software and the format will continue forever" Kutaragi explained.
In the past days, there have already been rumors about Sony hiring experts of PsOne emulation software to let their new console play all Playstation games.
