E3 2003: Acclaim announces Gladiator Sword of Vengeance
Acclaim gives you the chance of being a gladiator in ancient Rome.
Monday, May 12, 2003 - Acclaim Entertainment today unveiled Gladiator Sword of Vengeance for the next-generation consoles. The game, developed by Acclaim’s Manchester studio, takes place in ancient Rome, and will be based on a fighting system that allows players to fight multiple opponents, performing deadly combo attacks and finishing moves.
“Gladiator Sword of Vengeance fuses a larger-than-life backdrop of the Roman Empire with intense combat and epic storytelling,” said Ned Browning, Brand Manager for Acclaim. “For Gladiator Sword of Vengeance we’re incorporating all of the hallmark elements gamers expect from action adventure games, and more, while at the same time creating gameplay that captures the brutality and ingenuity of gladiatorial combat.”

The game is scheduled for a Fall 2003 release. Expect screenshots to come out during the three hot days of E3 (May 14th-May16th).

Gladiator will include
- Combat system that allows a great variety of moves and multiple targetin
- “Death Blows” – more than 60 graphic, gory killing moves based on authentic historical data
- Huge variety of opponents, including powerful nemesis gladiators and terrifying mythical monsters
- Scripted cameras and dynamic lighting, create a truly cinematic gaming experience
- Major “Gore” element in combat mode, featuring decapitation, fatal wounding, dismemberment and a dynamic “blood spray” system
- Diverse array of weaponry that expands through progressive gameplay
- The forces of ancient mythology and the use of the power of the Gods to defeat them
