Playstation 2 and Xbox price cuts in Europe
Today Sony Computer Entertainment Europe officially announced a price cut for the Ps2 in Europe. After a few hours, Microsoft made a similar announcement for the Xbox.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced a reduction of the recommended retail price of its PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system to £169.99 in the UK and to between €249 - €259 in Eurocurrency countries. The price cut is effective from midnight on August 29th, this Thursday.
The growth of Playstation 2 continues to accelerate since its debut in November 2000, with more than 8.25 million Playstation 2 owners in the PAL territories, and a total of 440 software titles that will be available for the system this Christmas.
"We are happy to announce that PlayStation 2 is now more affordable than ever and with over 145 more outstanding games due in the shops between now and Christmas, there has never been a better time to buy a PlayStation 2" commented Chris Deering, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
Among the titles that will be released between now and Christmas, the Ps2 line-up includes The Getaway, WRC II Extreme, This is Football 2003, Formula One 2002, Tekken 4, Ratchet and Clank and Kingdom Hearts.
Microsoft made the same move, announcing today a reduction of the recommended retail price for their Xbox, effective from Friday, 30th August, to €249.99 or £159.99 in the UK.
"The video games industry is more robust than ever this year, and new consoles and games are expected to dominate Christmas wish lists," said Sandy Duncan, Vice President of Xbox Europe. "Xbox is extremely well-positioned to be at the top of those lists because it's the best value. The intense power and gaming experiences consumers get with Xbox is simply unsurpassed."
About 200 game titles should be available this Christmas for the Xbox, including new releases like Blinx, Splinter Cell, Morrowind, Panzer Dragoon Orta.
