Ps2 and PsOne price drop in North America!
Sony Computer Entertainment America has officially announced a price drop that will take effect immediately for the Playstation 2 and PsOne in North America.
Tuesday, May 14, 2002 - Sony Computer Entertainment America has officially announced a price drop that will take effect immediately for the Playstation 2 from $299 to $199 in North America.
"The $199 price point for PlayStation 2 has always been part of Sony Computer Entertainment America's strategy to bring the world's leading computer entertainment system to the broadest audience," said Kaz Hirai, president and chief operating officer, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. "As we currently stand, our company has shipped more than 30 million PlayStation 2 units, and 90 million PlayStation/PS one consoles worldwide. With the popularity of the PlayStation brand breaking all industry expectations, Sony Computer Entertainment has been able to grow the gaming category as a whole representing tremendous opportunities for our partners and ultimately, for the consumer."
Also the price of other Playstation 2 related products has been reduced. An 8MB memory card will retail for $24.99 instead of $34.99; in the same way, a Dual Shock 2 controller will retail for $24.99 instead of $34.99.
SCEA also announced price reductions for the PS one. A Ps One unit now costs only $49.00 instead of $99; a Ps One combo (with the portable screen included in the package) will retail for $149.00 instead of $199.00 and a Playstation Dual Shock $19.99.
