300,000 GameCubes sold

- According to latest sales data, Nintendo sold 300,000 Gamecube units in the first three days following the launch of the console.

Two thirds of the consoles shipped to retailers have been sold, and this is surely a good result even if not impressing like what we have seen on the release of Sony Playstation 2 (980,000 units sold in Japan in one day) and of GameBoy Advanced (650,000 units sold in a single day). Anyhow Hiroshi Imanishi, Director of Nintendo Japan, reiterated "Initial sales were in line with our projections".

The three release games - the awaited Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, Wave: Race Blue Storm - sold in total about 400,000 units in these three days.

New games and new units will be shipped throughout the next months.
Nintendo's plans are to ship 2.5 million Gamecubes worldwide by the end of the year. And many games will be definitely addressed to a mature audience - 6 exclusive impressive games of the Resident Evil series, Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II, Namco's Soul Calibur 2, Duke Nukem Forever and more to come. And we should not forget the new Zelda scheduled for a 2002 release, that will surely be one of the best selling games of the next year.

The peaceful war of console is started. And from the beginning it seems evident that none of the consoles on the shelves is aimed to defeat its opponent. We'll see what will happen when Microsoft X-Box is released in the U.S.
